STATE OF ORIGIN 2013

OVERVIEW OF THE PROMOTION:

The State of Origin series is one of the most anticipated competitions on the Australian sport calendar. In 2013, the State of Origin will run on the following dates:

GAME 1: Wednesday 5th June, 2013 (ANZ Stadium Sydney)
GAME 2: Wednesday 26th June, 2013 (SUNCORP Stadium Brisbane)
GAME 3: Wednesday 17th July, 2013 (ANZ Stadium Sydney)

These games present a great opportunity to increase trade to your hotel over the three nights.

The following venues will receive a “Win tickets to SOO3” Promotion:

  • Belrose
  • Doonside
  • Lakeview
  • Leumeah
  • Mt Annan
  • Mt Druitt
  • Revesby
  • St Marys
  • Willoughby
  • Port Macquarie
  • Prospect Hotel
  • Cremorne

The promotion will run in the lead up and during the SOO games, with a prize drawn one week out of SOO3. Customers purchase a VB to enter the draw. Prize to be drawn at 8:00pm on Friday 5th July (Further details will be uploaded to your OMG calendars).

All venues that host a tipping competition (Except Eastwood) will receive:

  • “VB Blues Supporter Gear” - Supplier promotion from CUB. Prizes include official Blues merchandise. Please see the supplier promo on your calendar for more detail (except QLD venues)
  • Lombards Themeing Kit – Includes balloons, banners, posters & crepe streamers - $39.50. (Venues with over 60 in their tipping comps will receive 2 kits)

Footy tipping venues also remember that you will be offering a free schooner voucher to all tipping comp members.

BEST SEATS IN THE HOUSE:
DETAILS: Running a Best Seats in the House Promo in the lead up to Origin is a great way to build anticipation, customer participation and patronage on the night of the game.

It is recommended that you commence this promotion at least 3-4weeks prior to the games. Purchase a VB to go into the draw to win Best Seats in the house. Drawn at half time of Friday night footy the weekend before Origin.

Winner receives:

  • Designate Seating area for you plus 4 mates
  • Complimentary Food – of your choice. This can be pizza, a shared plate etc
  • 20 x VB Schooner vouchers

You will need to consider:

  • Compliance when serving drinks
  • Terms and conditions of the draw – have these on display right throughout the promotional period
  • Best location for Best Seats in the house and how you will designate and set this area up for the game.
  • How you will service winners throughout the game.

COST TO A&M: This will be determined by your offer. Please cost out your food component of your offer and your case of VB and include this in your A&M proposal.

BEST DRESSED BLUES/MAROONS SUPPORTER:
DETAILS: A great way to encourage customers to dress in their team colours is to offer an enticing prize for best dressed. The benefit of having your customers in their team colours is that it ads to the overall atmosphere and excitement within your venue for the evening.

DRINK SPECIALS:
DETAILS: Drink specials are a great way to encourage customers to come to YOUR venue to watch the SOO games, especially if you have a strong competitor in your local area.

Before selecting this option, please consider whether it would drive additional traffic to your venue, or would be detrimental not to have this on offer.

FIRST TRY SCORER SWEEPS:
DETAILS: Ordered through Sport Sweep Australia and run throughout each game, patrons will purchase a ticket into the sweep.

You will need to determine your ticket entry price for example; $2 for a number. Post the player draw with corresponding ticket numbers. Patrons will be given the chance to select their preferred player number from those still available in the draw.

You will receive 34 tickets per sweep pack (1-17 per team).

If the first try scorer corresponds with their ticket number they win the entry pool. Your winners prize pool will be 34 x $entry amount.

COURTESY BUS:

In your proposal, please include whether you have the bus service running normally, or whether this will be additional activity

FREE PIZZA/HOT PLATTERS/BBQ:
DETAILS: Non-food venues may wish to consider offering a free/Gold coin donation BBQ for patrons or other hot food items.

If you have sporting sponsors, consider approaching them to run a BBQ as a fundraising activity for their club.

PROMO STAFF:
DETAILS: Promotional staff can assist with building atmosphere within your venues, and can assist with service and any additional promotional activities you may wish to run on SOO evenings.

If you select promotional staff for these games, you must be well-planned with a brief outlining expectations of the shift to give to the staff before their shift begins.

COST TO A&M: $450 – 2 x Promo staff for 3 hour minimum - $75 per hour

PASS THE FOOTY:
DETAILS: ‘Pass the Footy’ is a great half-time activity to keep your crowds entertained during half time of the three games..

What you will need:

  • An enthusiastic staff member, or your sponsored teams to run the competition.
  • Cutout board through which the football will be thrown
  • A line on the floor that customers must stand behind to throw.
  • Football.

How it is run:

  1. Competition host signs up contestants before the commencement of the game.
  2. At half time, contestants are called upon to get ready to play.
  3. Those that get the ball through the cutout win a prize.

You may wish to offer food and beverage vouchers, supplier merchandise or meat trays, depending on how hard you make the competition.

COST TO A&M: Price of the ball, coutout and prizes. Please stipulate costs within your proposal.

REQUIRED IN YOUR A&M PROPOSAL:
  • Each individual activity you wish to run including the day you will be running this, times and cost to A&M. You will also be able to provide any additional comments around the activity in the A&M Proposal sheet.
  • Any existing daily What’s ON activity should also be included in your A&M Proposal as ‘proposed activity’. Simply note that this is existing activity and there is no additional cost to A&M

  • Any additional activity you may wish to include outside of the suggested mechanics.

USEFUL TIPS:

  • Create a strong banter with your locals and footy tipping comp members. Your staff must be the ones driving this banter in the weeks leading up to each game.

  • Ensure that your themeing is concentrated and eye-catching. Consider building a SOO Power wall, where you can display some of the prize items from the CUB Blues draw (NSW venues).

  • Encourage staff to dress up in NSW/ QLD colours in the lead up to each game.

  • Encourage your sponsored teams to promote your venue as the place to watch origin.

  • Make sure you are well-planned for the increase in patron numbers. Ensure you have enough seating and that most if not all seats have a good view of the game from your screens.

  • You may wish to consider showing the game through a projector for a larger visual impact.
