OVERVIEW OF THE PROMOTION:

State of Origin is the most anticipated series of games for NSW & QLD NRL fans. Held on Wednesdays and a Sunday evening, these games present an opportunity to increase revenue in all channels, on a traditionally quieter day of trade on all three fronts;

  • Increasing foot traffic to your venue
  • Increasing transactions per visit
  • Increasing spend per transaction

Of course, this is dependent on your choice of activity and how successfully you promote and execute the events.

Based on the data you have captured, you can target them through SMS or email.

Consider offering:

  • Free Footy Fare Food if they come down with 2 or more mates.
  • Food and beverage combo at a special rate
  • Special reserved seating
  • First drink on the house

Be creative with your offer, there may be an option outside the box that will appeal to your locals. Just remember that your objective is to entice them to your venue, you are not making it a free night for them.

  • Associated costs

  • Any requests for bonus stock
  • 5%-10% off other SOO offers
  • How you will inform them of the offer

FIRST TRY-SCORER SWEEPS:
DETAILS: A great way to build atmosphere and banter among your customers is to run first try scorer sweeps at each game. You may wish to run multiple sweeps, depending on expected crowd numbers.

A great way to build atmosphere and banter among your customers, encourage locals to attend your venue and strengthen relationships between customers and staff over the footy season is to run a First Try, Our Buy comp at each SOO game. You may wish to run multiple comps, depending on expected crowd numbers.

How it works:

  • Appoint a Club Captain (VM, ASM).
  • Invite patrons and encourage spread word of mouth
  • Club Captain places a $100 bet amount for the first try scorer of a game, at any time before the game  
  • If the bet is successful, all winning funds go towards a Bar Tab for the Footy Tipping members.

Terms: Not to be run in conjunction with any other Shout type promotions for SOO or Footy Tipping within venue.

SOO Marketing initiatives should include the following:

  • Bar till customer display screens - Upload to POS screens via OMG with scheduled finish date
  • Portrait Plasmas - Upload via USB or RIPTiDE, for selected venues
  • Tri fold table talkers - Only to be used it advertising multiple things on the one table talker
  • Staff Viral - Print out the event details and discuss in weekly manager meetings
  • Nightlife - Upload to Nightlife via OMG with scheduled finish date
  • Social Media - To be posted on venue socials, reach out to local sporting groups through social media and encourage venue sponsored teams and staff to be sharing event details
  • Posters in venue - Only to be used in venues where portrait plasmas are not available
  • E-Flyer - Only to be used in consultation with Customer Loyalty Manager
  • SMS - Only to be used in consultation with Customer Loyalty Manager
  • Local Media Release - Only used with when a newsworthy component is included and the media release guidelines are adhered to etc.
SUGGESTED SOCIAL CAMPAIGNS:

Social Campaigns

  • Create a hashtag campaign to encourage patron participation: This is as easy as asking customers to share their favourite photo, funniest NRL story or best advice their Coach ever gave them - be sure to include a venue related hashtag for people to share with the post.

  • Social poll: Create a social poll to poll fans and then release the answers for example who is going to win Game II of State or Origin. Facebook and Instagram make it easy to create a poll and you can then share the answers or put them into an infographic to share.

  • Local business promotions: You may consider running a social competition in conjunction with other local businesses to promote the venue to a larger audience (i.e. sports groiups). This should encourage patrons to share a venue post (i.e. Share this post and tell us your funniest football story to go in the running to win a bar tab at the next State of Origin game) Should you wish to run something like this you should look for local businesses with a large online presence and following.

USEFUL TIPS:

  • Ensure your POS is displayed in areas relevant to your promotion’s target market.

  • In the lead up to each game (including the morning and afternoon of), post exciting statuses on your Facebook page, including any unique food specials you will have running, getting the venue decorated & die-hard Blue/Maroons fans in your staff team or one of your locals in their getup for the night.

  • Make sure you are engaging with your local sporting sponsors and incentivising them to come to your venue to watch the game. If you have function spaces available, consider approaching them to run a SOO exclusive event for their club.
