The following are the suggested mechanics of the promotion. If you wish to alter these to suit your venue, please outline your suggested changes in your promo proposal brief.
Local males aged 21-45years
Local working class
Blue collar
A pool competition is design to encourage patronage to your venue mid week. This promotion will also encourage extended patronage on the night for the duration of the competition and beyond. The promotion will establish your venue as a good local destination for a relaxed game of pool and cold beer.
Entry incentive i.e complimentary schooner on entry
Pool Tables
Winners Board
Hotel Pool Comp Rules & Regulations
Adequate space to run several rounds at once
Prominently displayed ‘Pool shark board’ to display ‘This week’s Winner”
Commence registration at 7pm by having the pool comp host walking around the bar notifying patrons of the pool competition. This will encourage extended patronage from the post work crowd and generate interest early.
The Entry fee is $2 per player which will go to the Pool Comp Host as their incentive for increasing the number of players. Players will be given a ticket for a complimentary drink once they have paid their entry fee.
Number of players should be between 25-35 players
Once the draw has been filled, allocate two players per table on your round sheet. Round one will commence at 8pm and will continue until all tables have determined a winner. There will be a five minute break before the start of round two to encourage contestants and viewers to head to the bar to grab a drink. At this time the host will allocated all winners to tables for the second round.
Round two will play through until each table has determined a winner. Winners will go onto the next round. This sequence will be continued in a ‘knock out’ style until you are down to two players in the final round. The remaining two will compete for the title and play until a winner is determined.
Both runner up and winner will be awarded a prize. The Winner may then go through to the ‘Champions League” if you choose to run one. (Please see Champions Leagues Promotion Mechanics for details).
Weekly 1st place prize = $200 Cash
Weekly 2nd place prize = $50 Hotel Voucher

Have an energetic and fun pool comp host will assist with building customer rapport and keeping a light hearted fun element to the competition
Consider random weekly prizes for random places. E.g. 7th pace gets a mystery prize! This will encourage those who are not necessarily great at pool to have a go and keep a fun and light hearted element to your pool competition.
Create as much theatre in the room during the pool comp and banter with locals throughout the week as possible to keep the interest fresh and light heatedly competitive.
Use a local well connected person to run the pool comp who will be able to network well with their work mates, team mates or friends to increase the number of players from week to week.
Running a “Champions League Pool Comp” over a 10week period can keep the pool competition fresh and interested whilst giving pool comp regulars interested.
Use a “Winners Board” to showcase the promotion throughout the week and assist with creating banter amongst patrons
Example
POS = $78.55 (2 x A3, 1 x A1, 1 x A0)
